Nigeria’s Christian community is in deep mourning following the passing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, the esteemed evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA). The family confirmed in an official statement that the fiery preacher went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
For more than six decades, Rev. Ukpai stood as a towering figure in African evangelism. He was celebrated for his dynamic teaching of the Word, life-transforming healing crusades, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power. His ministry, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, transcended denominational boundaries, impacting millions of lives across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
The family described him as “a faithful soldier of the cross who dedicated his life to fiery evangelism and the transformation of destinies.”
“We are grateful to God for his extraordinary life and enduring legacy. While we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise,” the statement read.

Born on January 7, 1945, Rev. Ukpai was more than a preacher. He was a humanitarian, philanthropist, and nation-builder. Through his foundation and medical outreach initiatives — including the King of Kings Specialist Hospital and Uma Ukpai Eye Centre in Abia State — he provided free surgeries and healthcare to thousands, particularly underserved and rural communities.
A founding father of Nigeria’s modern Pentecostal movement, he mentored countless pastors, ministers, and gospel leaders, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s spiritual landscape.
Funeral arrangements will be shared in due course, according to the family.
