EFCC Arraigns Nigerian, Two Chinese Nationals, and Firm Over Alleged ₦3.4 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Nigerian, two Chinese nationals, and their company, Gentting International Ltd, before the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged ₦3.4 billion fraud and conspiracy to undermine Nigeria’s economic structure.

The defendants, Huang Haoyu, Friday Audu, and An Hongxu, were brought before Justice Daniel Osiagor on a 12-count charge of cybercrime. They pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari stated that the alleged crimes took place in Lagos in 2024.

According to the EFCC, the accused conspired with one Dualiang Pan (currently at large) to recruit Nigerian youths to impersonate foreign nationals. They allegedly engaged in illicit financial transactions, including retaining $1.2 million and $1.3 million in cryptocurrency wallets linked to fraudulent activities. Additionally, ₦3.4 billion was reportedly laundered through the Union Bank account of Gentting International Ltd, with substantial sums transferred to Dualiang Pan’s UBA account.

The EFCC further alleged that the funds were moved outside the official foreign exchange market, violating Nigerian financial regulations. The charges contravene the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, the Cybercrime (Prohibition) Act 2015, and the Money Laundering Act 2021.

Justice Osiagor adjourned the case to March 20 for the hearing of the defendants’ bail application, ordering their remand in EFCC custody until then.
