Inside the Sextortion Scam: Victims Share Their Experiences

SexTortion SCAM!!

Case 1: I was almost scammed for the first time at 30 years old

I was talking to a woman online on an app called meetme, for dating. I used to use it when i was 19 back when it was called myyearbook. Any way i downloaded it after several years and decided to try again at dating online. There was a woman i was talking to, she was 30 and lived fairly close. Everything was fine, we talked and exchanged numbers, then she started sending explicit pictures out of nowhere, and asked for nudes, i declined. Then the next day i get a call from a south carolina number and my called id says "Wireless caller" I answered, the man on the phone said it was her dad and was threatening me to give him and his wife money for talking to there "underaged" daughter, i told him she never stated she was underage, and i have the texts to prove it, as her profile said 30. So this is where things get weird. I declined to give them money and he was threatening to go to the police and get an attorney, i told him im not giving you any money as i did nothing wrong. Then i was getting screamed at so i hung up blocked and reported the number. My anxiety got the best of me and i was worrying what if it was real, as usually stuff like this happens i block and move on with my life because every time they end up being scammers. Well, i reverse searched the number that called me, and saw dozens of people commenting that they were threatened with the police, blackmailed, and extortion if they did not give the man money. So i was relieved as it was a scammer all along, i blocked said person on meetme, deleted my account, and blocked the number, i also filed a report of scamming online on the website. I was 99% close to giving them my money and information but once i realized i did nothing wrong, i stood up for myself and told him off. Me and my friend tried calling back the number hours later and nobody would answer, and the voicemail has never been set up either. I hope others find relief in this post as i am quite shooken up for almost losing everything over a scammer.

Case 2: Young men took his life after being the victim of sextortion

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

[Rohan, 17, Australia]

He’d been pressured into sending an intimate picture of himself to someone called “Christine” on Snapchat, who then threatened to distribute the images unless money was paid.

“He was eventually told, ‘Right, you’ve got half an hour until we ruin your life’... and that was just before he took his life,” Anthony said.

Investigators were unable to identify the person but found the Snapchat account originated from Nigeria.

Nigerians are killing people globally by illegally haccking into Whatsapp and Snapchat and thereby get into extortion and blackmail and due to fear of what the illegal hackers intend to post on social media, the victim or the victim ally would end up paying ransome for such mendacious acts. Kreeno Private Investigators along with their NSCDC partners bursted a couple that have extorted over Seven Million Naira (N7,000,000:00) from a Bishop in Osun State of Nigeria most recently in 2024.

User 2: Something similar happened to me not that long ago except instead of saying id spoken to an underrage female they got an explicit pic of me and threatened to send it to me employers and friends and relatives if i didnt pay and i was literally freaking out and trying to buy time to look up whether it was a scam or a legitimate blackmail scheme and was bargaining them down on the amount but came really close to sending a decent amount of money but then i thought about it and knew if i sent the money they'd just ask for more and there would never be an end or guarantee that they wouldnt follow through with releasing the photo anyway so i knew my best option was to just end the call and block them and hope for the best. Cutting my losses so to speak. They listed several people i know that would receive it but i never heard anything from anyone including them after that. I do sometimes wonder if someone i know randomly received that photo and was just so traumitized they just pretended they didnt see it lol. Lesson learned either way.
