ACF Wants Alleged Sexual Harassment Against Akpabio Thoroughly Investigated
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The forum highlights the implications for the Senate’s integrity and urges accountability.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged a comprehensive investigation into allegations of sexual harassment made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The allegations surfaced shortly after a disagreement between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio regarding seating arrangements in the Senate. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF expressed deep concern over the implications of the accusations, emphasizing their potential impact on the national and international reputation of the Senate.
The forum noted that the controversy had gained widespread attention, with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband also publicly addressing the matter. ACF highlighted the risks such public disputes pose to the integrity of the legislative body, stressing that the interests of Kogi Central constituents may be jeopardized amid the ongoing controversy.
Additionally, ACF pointed out a pattern in Senate disciplinary actions, suggesting that Northern senators had disproportionately faced strict penalties, including suspensions, in the 10th Senate. The forum called for an "independent, transparent, and impartial investigation, free from external influence, to restore public confidence in the Senate."

Senate Deputy Chief Whip Dismisses Allegations as Baseless
Reacting to the allegations, Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, dismissed them as unfounded and politically motivated. He also criticized former Senate President Bukola Saraki’s call for an Ethics Committee probe into the matter, asserting that Saraki’s case during his tenure bore no resemblance to the current controversy.
Nwebonyi contended that Akpabio should not be subjected to scrutiny over what he described as false claims. Meanwhile, an investigative panel led by Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South is yet to commence work on the issue.
Calls for Akpabio to Step Aside Intensify
Prominent voices, including former PDP spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan and civil rights activist Madubuachi Idam, have urged Akpabio to step aside pending the outcome of an investigation. They argued that doing so would protect the integrity of the Senate and prevent further reputational damage.
Ologbondiyan, in particular, accused Akpabio of bringing the Senate into disrepute, warning that the institution risks being compromised if the allegations are not properly addressed. Similarly, journalist Comfort Obi emphasized the need for a fair and transparent probe, urging Akpabio to clear his name through legal means.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has maintained that she possesses evidence, including messages and witness testimonies, to substantiate her claims. She has also expressed willingness to cooperate with investigative authorities to ensure a thorough examination of the allegations.
As the controversy unfolds, public scrutiny remains high, with many calling for accountability and a fair resolution to uphold the credibility of the Senate.
