Tribute By Prof Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Former Staff At Diamond Bank Plc: PGD A Banking Legend Departs

A legend has departed from the earth to the celestial heavens, where angelic melodies now welcome Mr. Pascal Dozie. He was a builder of generations, guiding many—myself included—into the path of prosperity and greatness. In November 2023, I received a phone call from him, and hearing his iconic voice filled me with awe and gratitude. Though initially meant for the Owerri branch, I was redirected to Diamond Bank’s headquarters—a decision that transformed my life. Through the bank, I earned two master’s degrees and a doctoral degree, fully funded under his visionary leadership. During our call, I recited the mission and vision of the bank, which I had memorized with pride in training school. I remembered how, upon resigning for a move to New York, I offered to return my upfront salary, but he graciously approved for me to keep it. As a pioneer, he revolutionized African banking with innovations like the DIBS system that integrated branch operations. Inspired by his foresight, I chose Diamond Bank over global opportunities because I believed in his dream. Today, at 85, Chairman Pascal Dozie ascends, leaving behind a legacy that forever changed the course of many lives—including that of a once village boy from FUTO.
