This narrative was entirely false and had no legal connection whatsoever to Dr. Ohio O. Ojeagbase, whose distinguished career spans decades of integrity in business, professionalism, and service in debt recovery, private investigation, advocate against injustice, and financial fraud mitigation. Our investigations revealed that this fabrication was orchestrated by individuals acting on behalf of powerful interests —referred to as “money bags”—who sought to bury a serious truth: allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and threat to life brought against the clergy with evidence. These allegations were being championed and fought by Probitas Report, a platform advocating for justice at the request of the victim’s legal counsel with formal documents to back it up.  

Fearing public exposure and accountability, these vested interests the said clergy involved in the case employed a well-worn tactic: weaponizing bloggers and unethical online media outlets willing to peddle falsehoods for financial gain. By spreading lies about Ohio Ojeagbase, they hoped to discredit Probitas Report and its efforts to bring the truth to light.  

Unethical Tactics: The Weaponization of Fake News  

The dissemination of this fake news story underscores a broader threat to society: the weaponization of misinformation by powerful individuals or groups seeking to protect themselves from scrutiny. These tactics are not new—they have been used repeatedly to silence whistleblowers, intimidate victims, and shield perpetrators from justice.  

In this case, the false narrative served multiple purposes:  

1. Distraction: By falsely accusing Ohio Ojeagbase of extortion, the perpetrators sought to shift attention away from the real issue — the Bishop’s alleged misconduct.  

2. Discreditation: Associating a respected figure like Dr. Ojeagbase with criminal activity aimed to undermine his credibility and that of any organization he represents, including Probitas Report (an integrity in business online news reporting firm).  

3. Intimidation: The use of fake news sends a chilling message to others who might dare to speak out against wrongdoing — stand up for justice, and you will face retaliation and this was what the clergy did but Probitas Report stood its ground.  

Such tactics are emblematic of those who value their own interests above truth, morality, and justice. They rely on the gullibility of readers and the lack of accountability in digital media spaces to perpetuate their lies.  

The Truth Behind Probitas Report’s Advocacy  

At the heart of this controversy lies a courageous effort to hold a clergy member accountable for egregious behavior. Probitas Report, acting on behalf of the victim’s lawyer, sought to shine a light on allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation—a deeply sensitive matter requiring discretion, empathy, and unwavering commitment to justice.

However, the courts ultimately dismissed these baseless claims, vindicating Ohio Ojeagbase and affirming the integrity of his work. Despite this legal victory, the damage caused by such misinformation lingers on those paid unethical and hungry bloggers, highlighting the urgent need for greater vigilance against fake news and its purveyors.   

The Threat of Misinformation: A Call to Action

The 2017 fake news story targeting Ohio Ojeagbase is more than just an isolated incident—it reflects a growing global crisis fueled by the unchecked spread of misinformation. In today’s digital age, where information can be disseminated instantly across platforms, the responsibility to verify facts and uphold ethical standards has never been more critical.  

Unfortunately, many bloggers and journalists prioritize sensationalism over accuracy, sacrificing professionalism for clicks and revenue. Such practices erode trust in media institutions, harm innocent individuals, and obstruct efforts to address real issues like sexual harassment, intimidation, dud cheques issuances, rape, sexual offences against minors, corruption, embezzlement, conversion of funds, breach of public trust, kidnapping, terrorism, lack of integrity in business, and abuse of power.  

To combat this threat, we must:  

1. Promote Media Literacy: Educate the public on how to identify credible sources and recognize red flags of misinformation.  

2. Hold Perpetrators Accountable: Advocate for stricter regulations and penalties for those who knowingly spread false information.  

3. Support Ethical Journalism: Encourage investigative reporting grounded in facts, fairness, and transparency.  

4. Amplify the Truth: Organizations like KREENO, CAFFIA, and integrity in business based news media like Probitas Report must continue to stand firm in exposing injustices and countering falsehoods with verifiable evidence.
