Sermon Elaboration: On The Road to DeMaskUs - Part 1

Scriptures: Acts 9:1–19; Acts 22:6–16; Acts 26:12–18
Introduction
Picture a man in full control, speeding down the highway of life. His hands are steady on the wheel, his mission is clear, his authorization is from the highest authorities of the land. His confidence is unshaken, his destination unquestioned. That man was Saul of Tarsus. But suddenly, a light brighter than the noonday sun explodes upon him. His engine stalls, his confidence collapses, and he is thrown to the ground. Then a voice from heaven breaks the silence: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
Beloved, life offers many roads. Some roads lead to promotion, others to destruction, and some to destiny. But there is one road that every believer must walk—the road to DeMaskUs. It is the road where Christ Himself intercepts us, unmasks our illusions, and reveals our true condition. It is the road where pride is shattered, where self-confidence dies, and where divine assignment is born.
The road to DeMaskUs is not just Saul’s story, it is the story of every son God is raising today. For on that road, we lose our mask of self, and we rise with the mantle of Kingdom purpose.
Why DeMaskUs?
"DeMaskUs is not a play on words. First, it is a literal place: Damascus, the destination Saul was feverishly traveling toward to persecute Christians. But secondly, and more importantly for us today, it is a process: De-Mask-Us. It is the place of divine encounter where God systematically removes the masks we wear such as the mask of self-sufficiency, the mask of religious performance, the mask of controlling ambition, the mask of self-righteousness, the mask of impunity and injustice, and the mask of hidden sin."
"You can wear the mask of success, the mask of 'churchanity,' the mask of being in control, but hear me today: when Christ meets you on your road, He doesn't negotiate with your mask; He tears it off to reveal who you were truly created to be, and He replaces it with His mantle. Today, God is leading us on the road to DeMaskUs."
Point 1: Divine Interruptions Birth Divine Directions
Read Acts 9:3–4 with deep emphasis
"As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly the light of the Son of God brighter than the sun shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground from his high horse and big beast, and heard the voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?'"
The Interruption:
"Saul was not on his knees praying for an encounter. He was on a mission against God's people, yet Heaven interrupted him. God did not wait for Saul to get it right. He stopped him in his tracks. Many of us are like Saul, driving fast on the highway of our own plans, thinking we are serving God when we are actually resisting Him. Our credentials, our zeal, our religious activity can become a mask that hides a heart far from God's true assignment."
Let us look at this Illustration - The GPS
"Think of it like a GPS. You're driving confidently, but you made a wrong turn miles back. The GPS doesn't just let you continue to your doom. It recalculates. It says, 'Rerouting...' Sometimes, God allows a sudden interruption such as a lost job, a failed relationship, a closed door, a sickness, not as a punishment, but as a divine rerouting. He halts your movement so you don't miss your destiny."
Application
"Don't despise the interruptions. What you call a setback, God calls a setup for a comeback. That disappointment might be a divine appointment to reorient your life." That person leaving you at a time you needed all the available hands you can give tasks to for the building of a masterpiece of an enterprise, is God’s way to say that he or she that walked out on you is not needed in the future of the work He is building through you.
"When Heaven shouts, Earth must stop! Your plans are subject to divine cancellation for the sake of your divine commissioning."
Prayer with fire
"Let's pray with holy violence: 'Lord, on my road to my own Damascus, interrupt every agenda, every plan, every ambition that does not align with Your perfect will! Stop me in my tracks, that I might hear Your voice, in Jesus’ name!'"

Point 2: True Sight Comes After Brokenness
Read Acts 9:8–9
"Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank."
What a paradox)
"Here is the great paradox: the man who thought he could see everything clearly was struck blind so that he could truly see for the first time. Saul’s physical blindness was a mirror of his spiritual condition. God had to break his independence, his pride, his confidence in his own vision, his skills, his connection, and self sufficiency. For three days, in darkness, Saul fasted and prayed. The Pharisee who knew the Law had to become like a helpless child, led by the hand."
Principle
"The principle is this: **God often blinds us to what we *think* we need, so we can finally see what *really* matters.** He will break the vessel of our self-will to pour in the light of His purpose."
For Example
"You thought you needed that promotion to be significant, but God blinded you to it so you could see that your significance is in Christ alone. You thought you needed more money, but God allowed a financial drought so you could see Him as your ultimate provider."
"The blindness of man is often the beginning of the vision of God. What God breaks, He does so to make whole."
Prayer of surrender
"Pray this with deep surrender: 'O Lord, whatever You must break in me, my pride, my plans, my vision that are not aligned to yours, for my true spiritual sight to emerge, do it now! I surrender. Give me Your eyes to see who I am and my assignment for this generation, in Jesus’ name!'"
Point 3: Marketplace Is Mission Field
Read Acts 9:15
"But the Lord said to [Ananias], 'Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.'"
The scope of the commission
"Look at the breadth of Saul’s new assignment: Gentiles (the unbelieving world), kings (the seats of power and influence), and Israel (the religious establishment). God’s plan for Paul was not confined to the four walls of a synagogue or one particular denomination. His pulpit was in the palace, his congregation was in the prison, his mission field was the marketplace." Today we see religious ruler hoarding their pulpits and saying “It is my pulpit, I will not allow hi other to come to my pulpit and he or she should pay homage before I can invite such and such to my pulpit” They are so myopic in their worldview, not realising that God can interrupt their hold and set up another that has mobile pulpit to reach territories least travelled by them.
Application to the congregation
"God is saying the same to you today as you read this. Your calling is not limited to Sunday mornings, pulpits, or church walls. The Kingdom is bigger than stained glass and pews. Your office desk is your pulpit. Your integrity in a business deal is your most powerful sermon. The way you treat a client, manage a project, or lead a team is as much worship as a hymn sung on Sunday. Your classroom, your hospital ward, your construction site, your courtroom, your shop floor, these are altars. These are sacred spaces where Heaven expects you to reveal Christ. You are not simply employed; you are deployed. God Almighty Himself has stationed you there as His Kingdom agent, on assignment.
For too long, followers of The Way (Jesus) have withdrawn their light to shine only within the four walls of the church. But if light shines among light, there is no contrast, no conviction, no impact. Light was never meant to compete with light; it was meant to confront and conquer darkness. Your light is only powerful when it pierces where corruption thrives, where injustice rules, where despair suffocates, where compromise seems normal. That is where your witness has weight.
So rise, son of God. Step out of the brick and mortar, and into the marketplace, the classroom, the hospital, the boardroom, the government office. That is where the Kingdom must be revealed. That is where Christ longs to shine through you. Church is the gathering point, but the world is the mission field. Go forth and shine where it matters most.
Let us look at this lllustration - Paul before Caesar
"Imagine Paul, the former persecutor, now standing before Emperor Nero, the most powerful man in the world, and declaring, 'Jesus is Lord!' That is marketplace influence. That is taking territory for the Kingdom."
"You are not just an employee; you are an ambassador. You are not just building a career; you are advancing a Kingdom."
Prayer for vision
"Pray for open eyes: 'Lord, open my eyes today! Let me see the divine opportunities in my workplace. Let me see my marketplace as my mission field, in Jesus’ name!'"
Point 4: Sons Represent Their Father
Read Romans 8:14–17, linking it back
"This is the outcome of the DeMaskUs process. 'For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God... and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.'"
Our identity shift
"Saul the religious servant became Paul the son of God. What’s the difference? A servant works for a wage and follows rules. A son works from a place of love and inheritance, led by the Spirit of the Father. The DeMaskUs road strips us of a servant mentality and reveals our true identity as sons and daughters of the Most High God taking the mantle to establish God's kingdom in our chosen field of influence without manipulating but setting the standard of how thigs ought to be done.”
Life Application
"You are not just a 'Christian worker' trying to earn God's favor. You are a son, you are an heir. When you go to work from today, you are not just representing your company; you are representing your Father in Heaven. Your work is an act of worship, an extension of the Family business." And let me use this opportunity to add to the body of knowledge by telling other fathers of faith in the kingdom, when your members are genuinely not in church because they went to work or their place of business, please note that they are in the place of worship too as that is also Worship to God so long as they communicated where they are. The root meaning of Work in the Bible also means Worship “Avodah”
**"Servants work for a salary, but sons work for an inheritance. Your identity changes your activity."
Prayer for identity
"Decree this over your life: 'Every mask of orphanhood, every spirit of servitude that covers my true identity as a son/daughter of God, be consumed by fire! I step into my sonship today, in Jesus’ name!'"**

Conclusion & Final Prayer
The transformation
"Saul of Tarsus went down that road with letters of authority, but he was a blind man leading the blind. He came up from that road with a new name, a new vision, and a new Master. He lost a mask, but gained a mantle. He lost his religion, but gained a relationship. He lost his sight, but gained true vision. He lost his ambition, but gained a Kingdom assignment that shook the Roman Empire." You too can shake that organization or industry doing the right thing.

Closing Altar Call/Prayer
"Maybe you've been walking on your own road, with your own plans, wearing your own mask. Today, right where you are, Christ is meeting you. He is shining His light on you. Will you surrender?"
"Let's pray together: 'Heavenly Father, just as You met Saul on the road to Damascus, meet me on my road today. Interrupt my life if it currently does not align to yours. Remove every mask that hides my true calling. Break every chain of self-deception. I surrender. Give me fresh fire, give me true sight, and give me a new commission. From this day forward, I declare I am a son/daughter, I am an ambassador, and I will carry Your light into my generation. The mask is off; the mantle is on. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!'" Indeed this is the era of The Rise of The Sons.
“In essence, The Rise of the Sons (Obadiah 1:21) is about a generation of believers who move from being saved people to becoming saviours, carrying Christ’s authority into every sphere, so that the kingdoms of this world become the Kingdom of our Lord and His Christ”.. Dr Kreeno
