Access Holdings Appoints Innocent Ike as New GMD/CEO, Succeeds Bolaji Agbede

Access Holdings Plc has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Innocent Ike as its substantive Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 29, 2025, following the receipt of regulatory clearance.

The announcement, issued in a corporate disclosure signed by the Company Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, was made public on Wednesday, shortly after the resignation of Mr. Roosevelt Ogbonna from the Board in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s revised corporate governance directives.

Mr. Ike succeeds Ms. Bolaji Agbede, who has held the reins in an acting capacity for the past 18 months, following the sudden passing of the late Group CEO, Herbert Wigwe, in 2024. Ms. Agbede will now resume her substantive role as Executive Director, Business Support.

Commenting on the transition, Access Holdings Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, described Ike’s appointment as the beginning of a new chapter for the Group, while also acknowledging Agbede’s exemplary leadership during a critical period.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Innocent Ike as our new Group CEO. At the same time, we deeply appreciate Ms. Bolaji Agbede for her outstanding service over the last 18 months. Her resilience, vision, and dedication provided stability during a period of transition, enabling the company to achieve significant milestones, including workforce consolidation, the successful execution of a ₦351 billion rights issue, and the seamless hosting of two annual general meetings. We remain grateful for the solid foundation she has laid.”

Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Ike expressed gratitude and a commitment to further strengthening the Group’s legacy. He said: “I am humbled by the trust placed in me to serve as Group Managing Director/CEO. I look forward to working with the highly talented team at Access Holdings to build on the legacies of Herbert Wigwe and Bolaji Agbede, while steering the company to greater heights and delivering long-term value to our shareholders and stakeholders.”

A seasoned banker with more than three decades of experience in financial services, Mr. Innocent Ike graduated as the Best Student in Accounting from the University of Lagos in 1988. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), as well as a certified IFRS expert.

His career includes a distinguished tenure at Access Bank, where he rose to the rank of General Manager, before being appointed as Managing Director/CEO of Polaris Bank (2020–2022). During his leadership at Polaris, he championed digital innovation, including the introduction of VULTe, the bank’s award-winning digital banking platform.

With his wealth of experience and proven track record, Ike is expected to provide strategic direction as Access Holdings continues its growth trajectory across Nigeria and beyond.
