Capital market stakeholders visit Ogunbanjo, Wigwe’s families

The Nigerian capital market community paid condolence visits to the families of former Nigerian Exchange Group Chairman, Abimbola Ogunbanjo and the late Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the US.

According to a statement from the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Thursday, those on the condolence call included representatives of the board and management of Nigerian Exchange Group and other key stakeholders in the industry.

The delegation led by the Group Chairman of NGX, Dr Umaru Kwairanga, included representatives from the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; Association of Dealing Houses of Nigeria; Central Securities Clearing System Plc, and NG Clearing.

Ogunbanjo and Wigwe died in a helicopter crash in the United States of America on Friday alongside Wigwe’s wife, Chizoba and son, Chizi.

At the Ogunbanjo’s home, Kwairanga highlighted the deceased’s leadership in the capital market, emphasising his kindness and humility.

Group CEO-designate of NGX Group, Temi Popoola, acknowledged Ogunbanjo’s significant impact on the Nigerian capital market and the transformative style of leadership during his tenure as council president of the Exchange and the first group chairman of NGX Group.

The outgoing Group CEO of NGX, Oscar Onyema, mourned the loss, stating, “It is a very painful loss, and only God can grant this family the strength to bear this loss.”

The CIS President, Oluwole Adeosun, remembered Ogunbanjo as a dependable and trustworthy supporter of the institute.

At Wigwe’s parents’ home, Kwairanga pointed out that the best legacy of the late Access Holdings GCEO would be to carry on and actualise his dreams.

He said, “I know that Herbert had a lot of wonderful plans for his family, his companies, the education sector and his nation and the best legacy that we can give him is to ensure that we all help to actualize those plans. His wonderful dreams must not die with him.”

Chairman of Coronation Group, Aigboje Aig-Imokhuede, who was present during the visit, expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment of Wigwe’s contributions and pledged to uphold his legacy.
